FAQ's

Have Any Questions?

You’ll likely find the answer here — and if not, our team is always ready to help.

What is GPS Fleet Tracking?

GPS fleet tracking is one of the most widely used tools for businesses looking to monitor and manage their fleets. A tracking device uses GPS to pinpoint and track the real‑time location of a vehicle, displaying that information on an interactive map. This gives fleets instant visibility into where their vehicles are and how they’re moving. With advanced GPS technology that captures location data every second, fleet managers are empowered with real‑time insights that improve efficiency, safety, and operational control.

What is the V-DAQ TAG5 vehicle tracking device?

The TAG5 is a compact, easy‑to‑install GPS/GNSS tracking device that captures your vehicle’s location, speed, and movement every second. Powered by secure 4G LTE‑M connectivity, it delivers real‑time tracking data directly to the V‑DAQ Platform, giving you instant fleet visibility, smart alerts, and powerful operational insights.

How can I access the V-DAQ platform and what can this do for my business?

You can access the V-DAQ Platform via web browser or through our iOS and Android apps. The platform lets you view live location and trip history, create alerts, and run reports, helping you improve fleet efficiency, compliance, and safety.

‍

Explore more on our Tracking Platform page.

How is the TAG5 installed?

TAG5 is built for quick, flexible installation — whether you prefer an auto‑electrician or want to install it yourself. The device mounts to the windscreen and connects to the vehicle’s fuse box using the included 3‑metre Power Adaptor. With four interchangeable fuse taps and a hard‑wire option, it delivers a clean, reliable fit across a wide range of vehicles.

‍

Installation overview:

  • Review the guide: Start with the quick instructions included with your TAG5 kit.
  • Connect power: Use the fuse taps to link to both constant and ignition power sources.‍
  • Mount the device: Plug in the Power Adaptor, route the cable neatly, and place TAG5 on the windscreen with a clear sky view — ideally on the right‑hand side or centre, avoiding metal visors or stone guards.‍
  • Activate TAG5: Let the vehicle run in an open area for around 20 minutes. Once connected to the network, real‑time tracking begins instantly in the V‑DAQ Platform.
Can I move the TAG5 between vehicles?

Yes. When a vehicle is sold, replaced, or upgraded, TAG5 can be removed and reinstalled in another vehicle.

How does TAG5 help with Regulatory Telematics requirements?

TAG5 is type-approved by Transport Certification Australia (TCA) and can be used in regulatory telematics applications such as Road Infrastructure Management (RIM), the Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA), and Smart On-Board Mass (OBM).

‍

If you require Regulatory Telematics, our regulatory experts will enable our integration with the National Telematics Framework (NTF), ensuring the correct data is automatically shared to meet your specific road access conditions.

‍

Regulatory Telematics can apply to a range of heavy vehicles, most commonly those operating at Higher Mass Limits (HML), under Performance-Based Standards (PBS), or in other high-risk categories.

‍

Learn more on our Regulatory Telematics and Smart OBM page.

Can TAG5 be used on trailers or other assets?

TAG5 is designed as a vehicle tracker, installed inside powered vehicles, and is not recommended for trailers.

‍

V-DAQ offers a range of battery-powered asset tracking options which can be installed externally on assets such as trailers. See our Asset Tracking page.

‍

If you are looking for a trailer tracking solution for cold-chain monitoring, trailer safety, or maintenance management, contact us to learn more about new products on our roadmap.

Does V-DAQ integrate with Safety Management Systems and Electronic Work Diaries?

Yes. V-DAQ integrates with a range of transport software, including systems for safety management, compliance record-keeping, and electronic work diaries.

‍

See our Software Integrations page.

Can I track my fleet on a mobile device?

Yes, you can monitor your fleet from anywhere. View live vehicle locations, receive instant notifications, and access detailed trip history and reports — all from your smartphone or tablet. Stay connected to your fleet at all times, whether you’re in the office or on the go.

Can I set alerts for specific vehicle activities or locations?

With V-DAQ’s Events and Alerts, get notified when instances of harsh braking and overspeed occur, and run historical reports that help identify trends and support proactive safety decisions for your fleet.
