If you are evaluating Telematics and On-Board Mass solutions, the starting point should not be compliance alone, or with the telematics provider you have already. It should be about how weight data works inside your operations, or how it can be used to enhance those operations.
Wireless OBM is our product designed and engineered to make on‑board weighing simple for drivers, visible for fleet managers, and seamless across multi‑trailer combinations.
- Drivers can use live axle and gross weight data to load accurately, from inside the cab or around trailers.
- Fleet managers gain live and historical visibility of combination weights, making allocations, fleet management, maintenance, safety and compliance easier and more automated.
- Manual record keeping is removed from the process.
Our Wireless OBM solution is also an approved Smart OBM solution; this means that when Smart OBM is required under Performance‑Based Standards (PBS) or when operating at up to Higher Mass Limits (HML), it’s already built in.
Operational usability is where the real value is, and often forgotten or an afterthought. V‑DAQ has done the thinking for fleet operators with its Wireless OBM solution, putting driver and fleet operational improvements first, and covering compliance requirements by default.
What does getting started look like?
Getting started with Wireless OBM is simple.
1. Install the gauges
Fit one approved gauge to the prime mover and one to each trailer axle group. Power them from ignition or accessory circuits and mount them clear of metal obstructions for strong connectivity.
2. Install the telematics device
Mount the V‑DAQ TAG on the windscreen on the same side as the gauges, with a clear line toward the trailers. Connect power using the supplied harness or approved wiring method.
3. Open the app and confirm your trailers
Turn the vehicle on, open the Wireless OBM app, connect to the telematics device and confirm which trailers are being towed. From that point on, live weights are visible and automatically recorded.
What drivers need to do day to day
Drivers use V‑DAQ’s Wireless OBM app when loading or checking weights. In the cab, they view live weights as normal. Around the vehicle, they can switch to Direct Connect Mode for instant readings.
Fleet managers should make trailer pairing confirmation part of pre‑start or pre‑trip procedures to ensure correct pairing every time.
What do drivers get out of Wireless OBM?
Wireless OBM gives drivers instant visibility of gross and axle weights while loading, enabling faster and more accurate loading decisions. Drivers can move freely around multi‑trailer combinations and view live weights without switching between applications. By removing manual processes and simplifying weight verification, the system provides confidence before leaving site.
What do fleet managers get out of Wireless OBM?
Wireless OBM provides fleet managers with live visibility of vehicle location, speed and combination weights within a single platform. Every movement is supported by historical mass data, enabling payload optimisation insights and reducing the risk of overloading. Digital weight records are stored automatically, removing the need for manual paperwork and improving operational oversight.
What do safety and compliance managers get out of Wireless OBM?
Wireless OBM automatically records and stores weight data in a structured, digital format. Historical records can be reviewed at any time for audits, investigations or internal checks. This reduces reliance on manual processes and lowers exposure to compliance breaches through consistent, verifiable record keeping.
If Smart OBM is required for your operation, it is already covered.
Choosing a Telematics and On‑Board Mass solution is ultimately about improving how your fleet operates, not just meeting compliance requirements. V‑DAQ’s Wireless OBM brings drivers, fleet managers and compliance teams onto the same page with accurate, real‑time weight data that is simple to access, easy to use, and Smart OBM‑approved. By removing manual processes, enabling better loading decisions and providing complete digital visibility across every combination, Wireless OBM delivers practical operational benefits from day one. If you’re assessing your OBM options, Wireless OBM offers a future‑ready platform designed to enhance productivity, safety and compliance in a single, seamless system.
